Bishop Dunia Sues For Proper Planning In Afemai Land
The Catholic Bishop of Auchi Diocese, Most Rev. (Dr.) Gabriel G. Dunia, has reiterated the need for proper planning of streets, houses, towns and villages in Afemai Land, stressing that poor planning is posing a serious threat to towns and villages in the area.

He gave this remark recently at the third Afemai Economic summit with the theme “Practical steps to sustainable development in Edo State” held at SKI International Hotel Agenebode, Edo State.

The Bishop, who commended traditional rulers present, harped on the need for Afemai people to have a common interest for one another and frowned at the attitude of the people on how they build their houses and manage their environment, describing it as inappropriate.

Further, the Chief Shepherd of the Diocese enjoined all communities in Afemai and their traditional rulers to plan their areas and teach their subjects on how to have socio- cultural self-esteem towards providing better environment for the people, adding that their environment speaks volume of who they are and prayed God to continue to bless Afemai Land, Edo State and Nigeria in General.

Welcoming participants to the summit, the convener of the programme Engr. (Chief) S.K. Ilugbekhai, CEO SKI International Hotel Agenebode who affirmed that the event was the third edition, noted that the event has become an annual occasion, he added that through the summit, there has been an increase in consciousness on development, among Afemai people both at home and in diaspora and hinted that the benefits of the programme are gradually beginning to manifest going by the level of progress that has been recorded in the developmental activities and self realization efforts of Afemai people in the past three years.

Also, the convener stressed that Afemai people through the summit, are now engaging themselves for the ultimate good of Afemai and pointed out that the occasion was aimed at creating a platform for discussing the development of Afemai Land, while commending all present for attending the occasion.

While appreciating all present, the incumbent chairman of the summit, Dr. Fidelis Ayebae, CEO, Fidson Health care PLC, noted that the summit was to provide a platform for practical and sustainable development in Afemai which comprise of Etsako, Akoko-Edo and Owan and implored all present to continue to give their support for the success of Afemai People.

Continuing, Dr. Ayebae thanked the convener of the programme for his initiative and called on the sons and daughters of Afemai at home and in diaspora to use their potentials for promoting sustainable development in Afemai Land.

On his part, the representative of Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, commended the convener Engr. (Chief) S.K. Ilugbekhai for the bold step and urged all present to utilize the knowledge gained from the summit to promote development in Afemai Land and pledged the state government's continuous support for the development of Edo people.

In his lecture titled “A road Map for the socio- Economic Development of Afemai Land” Dr. Chris Itsede noted that all Afemai sons and daughters are challenged to think about what Afemai Land will look like in the nearest future and enjoined all present to work towards how to make Afemai Land a business and industrial hub of Edo State, asserting that development goes beyond politics. He reiterated that the summit was to create a better Edo North, stressing that their priority was on human capital, Agriculture and other resources as a means for transforming the lives of the people in Edo North.

More, the resource person highlighted some of the plans to transform Edo North to include human capital development, harnessing natural resources and promoting general development in the area and urged all present to continue to support the summit in realizing their set goals.

Some of the dignitaries present at the occasion were Dr. P.O. Idogho, Rector of Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, Dr. Tony Akande, Chairman Afemai World Congress, some catholic priests in the Diocese of Auchi, traditional rulers as well as Afemai sons and daughters from all walks of life.
