Bishop Dunia Ordains Five Priests For Auchi
The Catholic Bishop of Auchi Diocese, His Lordship Most Rev. (Dr.) Gabriel G. Dunia, has ordained five deacons as priests at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, Auchi. They were Revs. Badaki Amos Shanu, Dania Charles, Ebalu Alfred, Inanoremhe Paul and Irabor Godstime.
Delivering the homily at the mass, Bishop Dunia reaffirmed that the duty of the disciples of Christ is carrying of the cross, following Christ daily and noted that anyone who does not take up his cross and follow Christ is not worthy to be His disciple, while stressing that the principle symbol of the Christian faith is the cross, which is the glory and exaltation of Jesus Christ, through which He won eternal victory.
Speaking further, the shepherd of the Diocese expressed dismay over the way many Christians are been deceived that salvation can be attained without the cross and described it as unfortunate.
Continuing, he charged all the disciples of Christ to pray earnestly for the gift of humility, charity, diligence, prudence, wisdom, the gift of the Holy Spirit and understanding and asserted that among them, the virtue of humility covers the entire relationship with God and described it as a pivote in which other virtues are based. While remarking that it was through humility that Christ was put to death for the salvation of the whole world, the prelate pointed out that Christ emptied Himself, taking the form of a slave to offer Himself for mankind, in which God raised Him above other names.
More, the Bishop charged all present to pray for the gift of wisdom and emphasized that through it, man will be able to judge accurately and bring him to perfection and enjoined the priests to shun pride, which he said would devastate Christian character and serve as an obstacle to Christian faith.
In addition, the prelate averred that the Church is for evangelization not only of the urban centres, but should be extended to the rural areas and urged the new priests to embrace whatever area they are posted to pointing out that it is for the purpose of evangelization.
He called on the new priests to shun arrogance and stressed that it may affect them spiritually and otherwise and tasked them to follow the foot steps of Jesus Christ so that at the end, they would wear the crown of Jesus Christ and reminded the lay faithful on the need for them to pray for priests by handing them over to God to enable them achieve their goals.
Highpoints of the mass which was attended by over 50 priests within and outside the Diocese of Auchi included prayers by the newly ordained priests for the Bishop of the Diocese Most Rev. (Dr.) G.G. Dunia, their sponsors, priests present, religious present, their parents and all present as well as the thanksgiving procession by the newly ordained priests and six other priests whose ordination anniversary conceded with the celebration accompanied to the altar by their families, friends and lay faithful in a joyful mood. Also, gifts items were presented to the new priests by Sarah Club international and the 2011 ordination committee members.
Giving the vote of thanks, the Vicar General of the Catholic Diocese of Auchi Very Rev. Fr. Isaac Bossey appreciated God for the fair weather which made the celebration worth while and commended the Bishop of the Diocese Most Rev. (Dr.) G.G. Dunia for accepting to ordain the five priests for the Diocese and the universal Church, while also thanking the priests present for gracing the occasion and also appreciated all present at the mass, prayed for their journey mercies back home.
